The Company Rosella
Founded in a backyard in Carlton, Victoria in 1895 Rosella at its peak in the 1930’s saw it producing more than 100 products. This lead to it supplying soups and jams to Sir Douglas Mawson’s 1924 Antarctic expedition and in the 1940’s to the US and Australian troops in WWII.
From here, Rosella became an essential brand within Australian pantries and its Tomato Sauce was often featured on Australian dining tables with the salt and pepper every evening. In 1994, Rosella produced more than 4.8 million tonnes of Tomato Sauce, however from here the success of the company started to decline as international competitors such as Heinz, Fountain and Master Foods entered the market. This gradually led to Rosella entering into receivership in 2012.
In 2013, Sabrands purchased the company and has been returning its small product range and manufacturing process back to the company roots of Home grown, made and owned. Since then, Rosella has been expanding as the historic brand finds its way back into Australian homes whilst supporting local farmers and the Australian Food Industry.
